Major League Hacking 2017 Hackathon Season
UGAHacks 3

Feb. 9th-11th, 2018 at Thinc Studios
225 W Broad St, Athens, GA 30601

It's amazing what you can make with a team and a table.

Join UGA for its 3rd annual Hackathon!
This year is all about going back to the basics. Come find out what a hackathon is all about!

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

What exactly is a hackathon?

Hackathons are all about groups of dedicated people coming together at a workspace to create something awesome. The 36 hour hackathon is free and open to anyone.

It includes mentors, free food, video game competitions, social mixers and more. There's even mixers at the event for anyone that still needs to find some teammates!

What do you make at a hackathon?

Hackathon creations usually revolve around technology. Hardware, programs, games, and apps are great choices, but these are only a few examples.

At a hackathon, you can make anything you want. From projectors created out of trash, to exciting new apps, to wacky inventions... the possibilities are endless!

Who is eligible
to join?

All students! We welcome all undergraduates and graduate students to attend. Professionals and other guests are welcome to attend as mentors or volunteers.

How much will the
event cost me?

Nothing! The entire event and its amazing perks are free for all participants, including meals and snacks to keep you powered throughout the weekend.

Where is the event
going to be?

UGAHacks will be hosted at UGA's very own Thinc Studios, at 225 W Broad St, Athens, GA 30601. Free parking is available nearby starting at 5PM. For more info, check UGA's parking guide here.

I want to volunteer/become a mentor!

Great! We love your excitement! Volunteers can apply with this form here! Mentors, we'd love it if you could reach out to us at hello@ugahacks.com!

What should I bring?

Laptops, phones, chargers, and other tools you might need for your project. If you're staying overnight, bring the necessary toiletries, and possibly a sleeping bag. Additionally, please bring your official student ID or government ID (no photocopies allowed).

Can I start working on my project before the event?

No. All UGAHacks projects must begin at the hackathon. You are not permitted to begin a hackathon project before this event.

What if I don't have a team or idea?

Don't sweat it! You're free to join any existing team or form a new one when you get there. We'll also provide ample opportunities for hackers to meet each other and brainstorm some amazing ideas.

How many people can I have on my team?

There's no hard limit but we recommend teams be at most 4 people.

What are the prizes and how can I win them?

Prizes will be a surprise! :) And you can win them by participating in sponsored challenges (which will be announced at the hackathon) or by winning the judges' interest in your project.

Will I have to bring food?

You can if you want, but we'll have food readily available for hackers all weekend. The venue is right in Downtown Athens too, so there's some great places to eat nearby as well! Please note that if you require any specific diets, we are not able to guarantee those accommodations.

Where will I sleep?

We'll have designated sleeping areas for hackers, but they will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. You're welcome and even encouraged to bring a sleeping bag!

Do you offer travel reimbursements?

Please state that you are seeking a travel reimbursement on your application. Travel reimbursement will be issued on a case by case basis.

Can high schoolers participate?

We welcome all high schoolers who are interested. Please email us at hello@ugahacks.com for further information.

What's the Code of Conduct?

You can find out more by visiting the MLH Code of Conduct page.

I have more questions!

We'd love to answer them. Feel free to drop us an email at hello@ugahacks.com.
